Bachmann appears to misunderstand the tax code

In this case, what she (possibly intentionally) misunderstands is tax incentives to buy a breast pump. That’s the machine breastfeeding mothers use to pump breast milk for storage, so they have an emergency supply, can get dads to help feed the kid and can occasionally, you know, leave the house. Michelle Obama, the First Lady, has said she supports making breast pump purchases tax-deductible in a health savings account plan. For some reason, a five-time (birth) mother with an LLM in tax law has interpreted this to mean “Michelle Obama wants the government to buy you a breast pump.” Salon:

The IRS announced last week that it would reclassify breast pumps as medical care purchases, and as such tax-deductible. Bachmann thinks this is terrible.

“I’ve given birth to five babies and I breastfed every single one of these babies. To think that government has to go out and buy my breast pump for my babies. You wanna talk about the nanny state? I think we just got the new definition of a nanny.”

To be fair, she did get her degree from Oral Roberts University. But we’re beginning to suspect the right hates Michelle Obama so much that any minor policy housekeeping move with her fingerprints on it is suddenly a huge drama. Sound familiar, Hillary?
